 Welcome to Kindergarten

Mrs. Nord and Mrs. Ryan's Class

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

New Year-New Goals!!

One of our favorite stories in December was Santa's Stuck.
We enjoyed brainstorming ways to help Santa out of the chimney!

Congratulations to Maggie McAndrew for being a finalist in the Keep Christ in Christmas art contest! Way to go Maggie!!

In ELA: We have learned the following sight words: I, like, eat, an, the, we, at, see, go, was, her, down, can, she, is, they, play, it, he, has, do, little, are, and, you. Please practice the sight words located on the word ring.  We know when we write a complete sentence it needs to begin with an uppercase letter and end with punctuation. We are also practicing pronouns. We finished Unit 4 and had our fourth reading assessment. Unit 5 is Technology at Home and School. In the story "Up, Up, and Away" we learned that we might use jet packs as a way to get to school in the future! We are also moving along with Heggerty and Wilson FUNdations and continue to practice recognizing, writing, and making the sounds for each of the letters we have learned. Now we are practicing blending letter sounds.

In Math: We are finishing Chapter 5 Numbers to 31. This included identifying, showing, and drawing groups of 11 to 31, comparing and ordering numbers, estimating groups of 10, 20, and 30 and problem solving. Our assessment is this week. Next Chapter we will work on tallies, graphs, and fractions as well as a class favorite...surveys!

In Religion: We continue to practice the Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory Be. We learned about the church season of Advent and Christmas. Each week we lit the Advent wreath and prayed for our loved ones. We loved watching the SKS Tableau and participating in our own Christmas concert. Now we are learning how our friends, who are also gifts from God, help us learn about the world God gave us.

We made Christmas cards for our friends at Rosemont Care Senior Living. We are so appreciative of all of the items sent in to gift them. They were overwhelmed with your generosity and kindness. Thank you again!!

We finished the year with Letter Person Day!

In Math: We finished the year with counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's. We reviewed counting and writing numbers to 100. We also practiced counting tens and ones. They did an excellent job mastering their math skills this year! Watch out First Grade...here they come!!

We thank God for all of the wonderful gifts He has given us...especially your children!

Congratulations to Brooks for receiving the Peacemaker Award! Keep spreading kindness Brooks!!

The Wizard of Words stopped by to deliver our Summer Reading Book: Boxitects! Our 6th grade buddies worked with us as we too became boxitects.

We became Entomologist this year as we studied the lifecycle of the butterfly. We waited and waited and finally...the butterflies emerged from their chrysalis! We were sad to let them go but they found their new homes in the Grotto๐Ÿฆ‹
